Hi Bev,
You'll find that Great Blues are fairly common in CT even the depths of winter, they are of course magnificent birds though and a pleasure to see. Yourself and others might be interested to have a browse through the list of common bird species that were considered common enough to not be reportable to the old daily updated list: http://www.ctbirding.org/commonbirds.htm as it will give you some clue to the rareness of any given species in the state. If you are really interested in the seasonal occurrence of birds in Connecticut the COA published an invaluable 'Connecticut Birds By the Season' edition of their Connecticut Warbler Magazine in January 2005. This is one of my more treasured birding publications and I recommend that any one here who doesn't own a copy try and get hold of one. There used to be copies available to purchase at the COA annual meeting and a couple of the optics stores in the state. There was talk of a reprint when the final few copies were being snapped up (perhaps someone on here can update the availability of the publication).
