The waterfowl are certainly beginning to stage here at Milford Point. Early this afternoon, as the tide started to drop, there were 18 Northern Pintail all together, and the Bufflehead group was 3 times the size of yesterday! The Green-winged teal are now all over the place, so they're tough to count.
If you're not familiar with it yet, my report below was generated from eBird.org, and they now have a great tool to check out the arrival and departure dates for each species, and all time high counts. You can search the records for the entire state, or your favorite hot spot in CT. We need more observations submitted- the previous high count recorded in eBird for Northern Pintail was 7 birds at White Memorial Foundation- the 18 birds together today probably isn't the highest count either...
