[CT Birds] still frozen lakes

Here in Southington our returnee male red winged blackbird is already in his usual look out  over the pond side singing over and over again announcing his return and nesting site. He arrived in February. If its the same bird, this is his third year here.

Two days ago was the first duck flight  through the property that we saw checking out the pond. Each year we have a pair of mallards nest even though the pond is small and shallow. Used to have wood ducks although not in a box but in a cavity in a very old sugar maple.
