I mentioned in an earlier post that the Common Redpolls that frequented my
yard all winter have left. Now even the stragglers are gone. In addition (to
my surprise) I have not seen a junco in my yard for 3 days or so now, and I
had almost 40 of them coming on a daily basis. It seems very early for them
to leave, but that's what it looks like. Of course I knew both flocks would
leave, but I do and will miss them.
On a positive note, I came home today to a flock of about 20 Cedar Waxwings
in my yard. I believe I have seen a few here before, but not recently and
I'm sure never that many. The other day I got a glimpse of what I believe was
an immature Red-headed Woodpecker - unfortunately not a good enough look for
a positive ID. Too bad, that would be a first for my neighborhood.
