As you observed Don things are starting to move now we are into March. The
irruptive species will all be moving northward again very soon if they
haven't started already. Clay mentioned the other day a bunch of the
returning or northbound species that start to show up here during March. In
addition to those there are some rare/uncommon things that can occur. The
alcids start moving northward this month and the chances of finding
Razorbills, Murres, Guillemots, or even a Puffin if you're really really
lucky, goes up as the birds that were south of us pass through, Some
rarities that could show up in March include Ruff and Wilson's Plover.
Places like Sandy Point or Hammonasset have produced these species before.
So once again we are entering the migratory period every birder is excited
by. The down side is the winter visitors we were graced with this year will
be missed. The up side is they will soon be replaced with many more species
we haven't seen here in a while. And if you do go birding along the shore
don't forget to check for Bonaparte's Gulls. One of these days CT is going
to get another Ross's Gull. I hope.

Dave

P.S. I will be updating the year to date list soon, as well as ask for
votes on February's best bird. And there is a surprise candidate. More
soon.
