Wow Clay I truly admire your dedication! If you are using the recommended 4
to 1 ratio you needn't worry about the dissolution of the sugar however. At
that ratio all the sugar will eventually go into solution without heating
the water. Some crystals will be in evidence for a little while at first but
they will all dissolve and their presence is not in anyway harmful anyway.
Sugar will not come back out of solution unless the solution is so
concentrated it becomes what is called "super saturated." At the 4 to 1
ratio the sugar solution is not going to be super saturated. If you did
super saturate a solution by heating, the sugar would suddenly precipitate
out of solution on cooling anyway. Forgive me for letting my chemistry
background show but I wanted to let people know hummingbird feeding needn't
be complicated or time consuming.
