I have been interested in the numbers of Ducks still being seen at or near the coast line. From this, I am curious as to what causes them to begin their flights inland towards their breeding grounds. How do they know when to make the move?

Here in the northern parts of the state, and Im sure north of us as well, we still have lots of snow, and most all the lakes and ponds are still frozen with ice.
Do they somehow know this is so?

I am looking forward to seeing them visit our inland waters, but not to be till they open up..........
