[CT Birds] Goldfinches

Chances are that if your thistle seed has been sitting in the feeder for almost 4 months, it is pretty much no good and nobody will want it. I'd try dumping it and filling with fresh seed and see what happens. More than any other seed, thistle (Nyjer) seed goes bad when sitting, especially outside in a damp environment like a tube feeder. Good luck.

As to Goldfinch, here in Hamden we've had anywhere from 150 to a doz or so but never a day with less. Still have at least 4 Pine Siskins as of yesterday but they are not as regular.

More
on
Goldfinches
&
the
lack
thereof:
Here
at
home
in
Stratford
we've
had
no
goldfinches
since
probably
late
November.
The
thistle
feeder
has
remained
3/4
full
since
then.
There
have
been
some
House
Finches
fairly
regularly
and
they've
preferred
to
eat
at
other
feeders
with
the
sparrows
&
nuthatches.
