An immature bald eagle was observed this morning at approximately 10:30 AM
on the Mianus Pond.

The first year bird was fishing for stunned Gizzard Shad. Views of the bird
were from the US 1 bridge crossing the Mianus River. After catching a shad,
the bird landed in a tree to finish the meal.

Cold water temperatures over the last two weeks have resulted in 100's of
dead gizzard shad. Large flocks of Black Backed and Herring Gulls (50-100 -
birds) have also been taking advantage of the food source.
