There has been a rather dramatic increase in reports of Bald Eagles on this
list and from the NOS group recently. I saw 3 imm. Bald Eagles Tuesday in
the Pomfret area, and two just last Friday at the Beaver Dam Marsh in the
Natchaug State Forest. Today Dana Campbell reported seeing two eagles
in the Glastonbury Meadows. Chris Elphick reported seeing three at
once in Eagleville just a week or 2 ago, and I saw 1 there a couple
of weeks before that. I believe Steve Morytko has reported two sightings
recently in the Ashford area. One imm. was reported a week or so ago at
Mansfield hollow on several different days, and I just learned that one imm. and 1
adult were seen there together on Saturday. In the last month or two there
have been many
other sightings reported. It appears that our national bird has truly
made a comeback in CT and has suddenly become much more common
in the state. I still get a thrill every time I see one and I hope
the trend continues. They are an inspiring sight.
