3/22  East Windsor,  Melrose Rd. (corner of 140 & 191) 1 AMERICAN KESTREL 
hunting over fields on Melrose Rd.  Neat to see him hovering in the brisk 
wind, looking down for prey.  Also at Mill Pond in Somers, had 4 pair of 
Hooded Mergansers fishing for minnows in the shallows around some fallen 
logs, 1 female common merganser, 1 pair mallard, and half a dozen 
ring-billed gulls. I don't usually see  much waterfowl in this part of the 
Scantic River so was happy to see the mergs catching fish.
