[CT Birds] Station 43

3/26  Station 43 Marsh  10 AM
Pair BLUE-WINGED TEAL, foraging in the thick vegetation.  Took a bit of 
patience to view them!
Also green-winged teal, ring-necked ducks, 40-50 mallard showing beautiful 
irridescent green heads as they took off into the morning sunshine, wood 
ducks, black ducks, wigeon, and 2 mute swans chasing off 2 canada geese, 1 
great blue heron, 1 kingfisher, lots of red wing blackbirds and crows.
30+ turkeys on Strong Rd. with 6 males fanning incessantly to the mostly 
unimpressed ladies.
1 osprey, several killdeer Vibert Rd.
Forgot to report on Sunday, 2 river otters playing in the marsh.

3/25 Hammonasset SP  with Maggie Peretto:
2 CANVASBACK drakes continue at West Beach pond, 2 Merlin near the Meigs 
Nature Center, 1 Great Cormorant in breeding plumage, 2 Oystercatchers along 
with 100+ Sanderlings and Dunlin showing off their flying skills, and Ruddy 
Turnstones on rocks near the pier, several surf scoters and common loons, 
also killdeer mating, 1 horned lark (surprised to see just 1), and song 
sparrows in field near marsh blind.
