Saw my first Phoebe of the year at Eagleville dam in Mansfield, then off to
Pomfret.
Aikers Pond: Common Mergansers, Hooded Merganser (1 drake), Ring-necked
Ducks.
Trails near the the sunflower patch at intersection of Needles Eye and Day
Roads: 1 Catbird (year's first for me except 1 in January). 3 American
Woodcock flushed as I walked by. 1 Fox Sparrow, 1 Eastern Phoebe.
Marsh area near the south end of Day Road: 1 sub-adult Bald Eagle, whitish
head with tan crown, tail light but not white, no white on body or wings.
1 Coopers Hawk, 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 3 Turkey Vultures.
This spot seems to be in a raptor flyway. Typically when I arrive I see
little or nothing, but scanning to the northeast above the treeline with
binoculars I almost invariably pick up 1 or typically several hawks, etc.
Sometimes they are never visible to the naked eye but just as often they fly almost
directly overhead. Today they were almost hovering in the stiff southwest
breeze.

Clay thanks for the owl info.
