Hi all,

I just viewed two photos of the oriole that is coming to the
Schaefer's feeder in Canaan. It appears to be a first-spring male
BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, as originally reported. Closer/clearer views are
needed to rule out a hybrid. Bullock's and Baltimore Orioles, formerly
considered conspecific (Northern Oriole), are known to interbreed
where their ranges meet. But I don't see any reason to suspect a
hybrid based on these two images.

Here is today's report from the Schaefer's:

>>From Ingrid & Tom Schaefer :
3/27/08 – Canaan, 60 Orchard Street, 1st year Bullocks Oriole (to be
confirmed) continued throughout the day on and beneath the feeder in
the backyard. Feel free to come to the house to check it out. You
can park out front and walk down the driveway, and the feeder is on a
clothesline to your left, coming from the back porch. All are
welcome.<<

Out of time right now, but hopefully further notes on identification
will follow.
