First off, thank you to Ron for this historical perspective.
Speaking of the master plan at Silver Sands, an issue that we may need to keep on our radar screen is the suggestion to add an addition 300+ parking spaces in the park, which was pointed out to me by Steve Spector. Apparently, the plan was made in 1992 and so far there hasn't been any progress towards this goal of additional parking, but I understand that the area proposed as the additional parking is one and the same with the area that is so productive for sparrows in migration and where the COA sparrow ID workshops are held. Again, there is nothing imminent, and nothing to get upset about, but it should be on our radar screens if it looks like there is a proposal to alter that area significantly.
Some might argue that it isn't a natural habitat to begin with, but it is a functional habitat, which is what really counts in this very altered landscape that we call home.
