Two dozen common redpolls ~12 days ago dwindled to five, currently one
or two per day, usually 8-9 a.m., and for past three days have been
joined by 3 fox sparrow, 3 song sparrows, a pair of black ducks (a pair
of hooded mergansers was present 4 hours on 3/22/08), plus the regular
feeder crowd daily (5 downies?, 3 hairies, 1 red-belly, chickadees, w-b
nuthatches, titmice, M. doves, up to 12 blue jays). Two male bronzed
grackles and a male redwinged blackbird for past week. First male
cowbird 3/30/08. One or two tree sparrows and three juncos still being
seen as of Monday 31 March in northern part of Ashford ~ 700' elevation
where we still have some shaded ponds iced over.
