Probably not uncommon enough at the state level to make the daily report, but it may be of interest to locals and perhaps photographers. There was a very tame drake GADWALL on Mirror Lake in Hubbard Park in Meriden this evening. Looking far more dignified in his begging than the local Mallards. I am not sure I have ever had such great looks at a Gadwall, as he allowed me to approach within 10'. Really a handsome fellow and the fine feather detail is quite beautiful at close range.
Also a hen Ring-necked Duck and more than the usual number of American Black Ducks mixed in the flotilla, with 38 counted. Of course some among those may have some hybrid features, but I didn't look at them all closely. Some obvious hybrids too.
