[CT Birds] Morse Beach

I received several requests for more information about Morse Beach - a  
picture is worth a thousand words - but a series of pictures.  If you  
select this link you will download a 2 MB powerpoint slide.  The  
single slide contains an animation - overlaying aerial photos that  
have been georeferenced - so the beaches are in the same spatial  
position.  Start the slide show the first image is 1968 - note the  
pair of parallel wooded training walls that were built in the early  
1960's to connect Old Field Creek to Long Island Sound.  By 1968 the  
beginnings of Morse Beach (Sandy Point above) are evident - growing  
east around the south end of the training walls. Subsequent aerials  
include 1974, 1980, 1986, 1991, 1995, and 2005.  Go to maps.live.com  
to see the significant changes at the point in 2007.  Zoom in - turn  
on aerials - and then turn on birds eye view - use the rotation arrows  
on the left side to change the angle of the view.  These are the new  
2007 pictometry acquired by the State of CT.  What future changes are  
in store for Morse Beach - how much of this growth is dependent upon  
the erosion of the beaches to the west that were nourished with sand  
by the Corps of Engineers since the 1960's.
