There is at least one Bohemian waxwing on the UConn campus, as of 10 minutes ago (9:15). It was reported yesterday by Milica Ivovic and Nancy LaFleur. Steve Morytko and I tried to find it last night but arrived to see about 30 waxwings flying away. One bird looked noticeably bigger than the others but I got no detail on it and we failed to re-find the flock. This morning Bob Bitondi reported the bird around 8:30, and I just saw it too - along with 28 cedars.
All sightings of the Bohemian have been in the fruit trees by the CLAS building, which is just across Glenbrook Road from Swan Lake in the NE corner of campus (bottom right on this map: http://www.sp.uconn.edu/%7Eucbsg/map.gif which is oriented such that North is to the right. The fruit trees are on the west side of the building.
There has been a cedar waxwing flock of about this size around the north edge of campus for about the last 10 days. Other spots they have frequented include a heavily laden fruit tree on the north side of North Eagleville Road just across from the Math/Physics complex (GANT on the map), and the bushes on the NE corner of the intersection between Hillside Rd and N. Eagleville Rd. If the birds are not near the CLAS building, then I would try one of these places, or the dorm complex between North Eagleville Rd and Lot W.
