My feeder has been up since April 1st.

It's just not right to have 70 degrees without hummingbirds and orioles present, not to mention nothing in bloom yet. :)))

The flowering quince buds are swelling daily, if these temps continued we would have blooms soon, the rain and cooler temps should slow things down. The hummers and orioles arrive while the quince is blooming each year and visit it frequently.

Bluebirds have been copulating regularly, but no eggs yet. Not sure this is the same female we have had for 4 years as she would build and lay her clutch immediately upon finishing the nest. T he banded male who came through rehab, and had 3 clutches last year, lost the battle. This year it is an unbanded male who has won our property. The battle was hot and heavy for a few weeks.

Yesterday I purchased 4 slot boxes after getting permission to do a bluebird trail across the road from me in some great open habitat. Hopefully this will work out well.

The phoebe is quite apparent these days, actively singing and scouting out potential sites. Hope he scores a girl! He's got me smitten! :))))
