[CT Birds] Hummingbirds and others, banding

Thanks, Jim. I do have the metal guard portal on the house (originally put up to attract disinterested bluebirds. The guard's hole is sized for chickadees but the wrens can also get in. It does keep out the sparrows and other nest predators, thank goodness.

Kathy, You might try putting a small "portal" sized for a chickadee that would exclude most house sparrows and avert disaster. They also keep the woodpeckers from making the holes bigger as well.

I have moved a nearby box to the other side of the yard as a
precaution against the house wrens who would kill the nestlings if they were
within the wren's territory (about 50 yds, I believe).
