206 species have been reported in CT so far in 2008. New species added since
last post include the following;
Little Blue Heron. First one seen in state was inland at Durham Meadows.
Thanks to Aaron Barriger for the info.
Pectoral Sandpiper. Number 200 for CT in 2008. Wuhoo! Thanks to Jerry
Connolly.
Yellow Warbler. First one for year was found well inland a Storrs. Thanks to
Kevin Burgio.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Reported from Bristol. In looking at the posts to
make-up this update I see that actually I predicted we would have one by
April 11th. This bird was posted April 11th. Well I've used up my luck for
the year.
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Reported by Scott Kruitbosch, found by his father
Harold. Following up on the White-eyed Vireo it looks like Scott has a good
spot for finding first arrivals.
Blue-headed Vireo. Luke Tiller gets the first. Thanks Luke, I was wondering
if one would get reported today.
Blue-winged Warbler. Bill Banks spotted one at East Rock Park in New Haven.
Chimney Swift. Just as I was about to go to press (Greg will appreciate that
turn of phrase) Nick Bonomo reports a notably early Chimney Swift at Milford
Point.
Well the Spring flood is on our doorstep. Soon to be found are Northern
Waterthrush, Black-and-white Warbler, and many others. There have been
reports of Black-necked Stilts on Long Island. It's time to expect some
southern overshoots.
Good Birding!
Dave
