Probably due to the SW winds shifting to the NW late, yesterday, a Horned
Grebe made an unusual appearance on Woodridge Lake in Goshen, just off Sunset
Beach on West Hyerdale Road. It was there about mid-afternoon, today.
This individual was in an interesting, transitional plumage with rufous
showing on the flanks, back of the neck and in front of the eye as well as some
of the yellow patch burning-in on the head.
Otherwise, things seem to happen in Goshen later than in other parts of the
state. The first BW Hawk was circling, overhead, yesterday, and the first,
YB Sapsucker made its presence known, today. Timing is about right in both
cases. Pine Warblers, not yet in evidence, are running a little late.
