Not seen since late Fall at our feeders, 2 pair of Purple Finches showed up on Sunday- one in the morning, and then both pair at the feeders mid afternoon.

Also, on a family walk at CT Audubon, Burr St on Sat., we had a LA Waterthrush singing away.

This list offers a chance to spot things that would be overlooked without its statewide scope. We often detect heavy southbound movements of Purple Finches in the fall, but springtime movements are not very well known. The flurry of Purple Finch reports today indicates a migratory push by a species that was quite scarce here this winter, despite good numbers of most of the rarer northern finches. This follows a strong fall Purple Finch flight that apparently carried most of the birds south of New England.

I'd encourage everybody to keep reporting them to sharpen the picture even more.
