[CT Birds] Re Bonaparte's Gulls

Dennis, Bonaparte's Gulls historically did roost in South Cove Old Saybrook
at high tide as well. They would be way back on the west end near the
vegetation and therefore not very noticeable from the causeway. As I posted
before, Boneys have a wide repertoire of foraging techniques and actively
feed at all tides. At the high tide in Old Saybrook the roosting birds would
constantly break off and go feed while being replaced by others. Now
admittedly they weren't always there at the high tide but there would be
some group of roosting birds somewhere around the mouth of the CT river at
the high. They would sometimes roost out at the mixing interface of the CT
river water and Long Island Sound water, which was far enough out to be
difficult to see without a scope. In that way they could desultorily feed at
the upwelling, effectively roosting and feeding at the same time. Kinda like
when I sit on the couch and watch TV and eat at the same time! Alright it's
not really like that at all.
