Having seen all the woodpecker species in CT but one in my yard yesterday, got me to thinking about some other bird special moments and times, as I'm sure we have all had.

One of these events happened this year with all the winter evasive species we have had. Well for me, this was a banner year, represented by seeing all the expected winter evasive species in CT before the end of February 2008.

Being one who doesn't chase sightings discovered by others much anymore, I can also be happy for the fact, all these sightings were discovered by myself and / or with my brother Douglas. So here is the list, which excludes December 07, Starting with January 2008.

Northern Shrike - Bakerville - plus 6 others seen.
Pine Grosbeak - Falls village - plus numerous other sightings.
Common Redpoll - house feeder - Harwinton - all winter.
Pine Siskin - house feeder - all winter.
Hoary Redpoll - house feeder - 3 separate birds!
Bohemian Waxwing - Falls Village - plus 3 other sightings.
White winged Crossbill - Canaan Mt. 2 on a Spruce tree.
Evening Grosbeak - Barkhamsted - plus 3 other sightings.
Red Crossbill - Torrington. eating from a Blk Spruce.
Also more common regulars were also seen such as Red-breasted Nuthatch and Purple finch, and 2 Boreal Chickadees just 30 miles north into Mass.

A Memorable Winter to be sure -
