It's prime time for overshoot Prothonotary Warblers to show up. Locations in
CT for multiple historical occurrences of this bird include East Rock Park
in New Haven and Nehantic State Forest Lyme Unit. Nehantic in particular has
had sightings nearly every year over the past 6 to 8 years. Anywhere there
is standing or slow moving water with plenty of dead snags and overhanging
vegetation could attract this species. This is one gem of a bird which could
show up anytime from now till mid May. Prothonotary Warblers get their
common name from the protonotarii, officials in the Roman Catholic Church
who wore golden robes and had certain responsibilities for papal documents.
