Good Morning!
I woke up to hearing the warbling song of the purple finch this A.M, along with chipping sparrow, white throated sparrow and juncos. The WTSP are looking spectacular now that they are finished with their molt and are all over the place here and very vocal. All I hear is sam peabodies! :)))
Up the street from me is a pole barn/pavilion type structure that we are duplicating that has nesting barnies each year. This A.m there was a barn swallow perched on the wires in front of it. Earliest I have ever seen a barnie here! Ours is almost complete, and the chimney will be done in about another hour! Bring on the swifts!
Signs of nesting all around me as a robin completes a nest under our porch on a platform, red bellied wp excavates a cavity in the old cherry tree, and I watched a wb nuthatch fly away with a mouthful of lint. :)) Chickadees are checking out a nestbox and momma blue is sitting on 5 eggs as of the 15th. So far out of the 4 nestboxes we put up across the street one has a hit and the female is building.
Had a RC kinglet singing and singing while working a white pine, and heard a rb nuthatch a few days ago.
I am SO ready for more birds!
Have a clinic that is filling up with car hit birds, mostly robins and a flicker. All very badly injured with head trauma. I am on borrowed time at this point, last years first baby was a robin brought in on Mothers day of all days!
