Today (April 23) I tried to help Neil Currie with his year winter wren. No luck with the winter wren in the Steep Rock Preserve here in Washington, CT. We then stopped at the parking lot, off RT 47 here in Washington, of the Hidden Valley section of the Steep Rock Preserve. The resident northern goshawks are nesting on the RT 47 side of Hidden Valley this year. While we had no luck at the parking lot, as we drove from here towards RT 202 a male northern goshawk crossed the road in front of my car. We stopped and waited to see if the goshawk would cross the road again but no luck. The goshawk crossed the road by a 50 mile speed limit sign. We then went looking for migrating hawks. We went up Rabbit Hill Rd from RT 202 into Warren, CT. We turned on Jack Corner Rd and stopped to look for hawks. No luck with migrating hawks. We did have 5 common ravens in with a group of turkey vultures.
