This weeks migrants banded at Birdcraft (314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield)
included palm and black & white warblers, northern waterthrush and ruby
crowned kinglets. We had a little excitement this morning when we briefly
caught a red-tailed hawk who was after one of the robins caught in the net.
The poor robin was dead anyway so I removed it and gave it to the hawk. The
hawk was so intent on its meal that I could approach within two feet of it
while I removed the robin. It moved off about 10 feet and I left the robin
by the spot where the hawk had been. On the next net check there was
nothing left but a pile of robin feathers.
