As I suspected, the female nesting Canadian Goose has been injured when her nest was raided/eggs cracked open about a week ago. It appears her neck is broken. She is lingering while her mate stays by her side at all times, breaking from her for only minutes while he goes into the pond. She used to float with him, but has not left land in 2-3 days. Both are banded, but I can't see the numbers. Is there anything that can be done or does nature take its course. What will happen with her life mate?? Is there any chance that she could recover? On another note, does anyone have any tips on?differentiating a Barn Swallow, Tree Swallow and Chimmney Swift. I had?4 (of one of these), flying rapidly above me yesterday around 6:50pm-flap, flap,flap..glide. They were so fast, darting up and around that I could not catch a good view. They were dark blue(ish) on the upper parts?and?light underparts. The tail seemed? forked.?The never landed/perched anywhere.?Checked out sites for images, and still can't tell which I saw. Is the blue upper part my only clue...
