If your birds were blue, they weren't Chimney Swifts, which look like black flying cigars. White underparts leans towards Tree Swallow, although sometimes barns can be white below. The degree of forkedness is a good clue and also they sound quite different and Barn Swallows are darker blue, but the upperparts color depends on ligthing. Look for the long, thin forked tail in barnies.
