I was unable to check the box yesterday but did this morning to find that the babies had hatched.

This rainy weather makes it difficult to find the tiny, soft bodied insects needed to feed hatchlings. I offered them waxworms but they are refusing those also. I suppose if they were not finding what they needed to feed the hatchlings they would take them. Just me worrying as is my norm. :))) There has been breaks in between downpours that they have been taking advantage of.

The adults are eating the mealworms and waxworms. IME they never feed mealworms to newly hatched chicks. I usually see them forage in hemlocks, and on the ground as is the case today looking for the right food choice for this delicate stage.

As much as I was grateful for the rain for so many reasons it sure stalled migration. Tomorrow should be good!
