[CT Birds] Central Park Birding, NYC

I am going into New York City to do a bit family history research early next and I am thinking it is a bit crazy not to do a bit of birding in Central Park while I am there. Any advise on birding Central Park out thee? Since I will using subway/bus while in NYC I also need help with what would be the best way to get to birding places in Central Park from just north of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, where I will be staying in NYC. Any help will be appreciated.
