[CT Birds] The Busy Season!

We are for sure into the busy time for bird sightings and reports,
and a few comments are in order.

About having all that mail to read:

For those of you who are overwhelmed with all the email that CTBirds
generates, there are three tools to consider. First, there is the
DELETE key! You don't have to read every message, and it really
shouldn't be hard to skip over the ones that hold no interest for
you. Second, there is DIGEST mode. This setting lets you receive
just one (or a few, when things are really busy) messages each day,
with a bunch of messages combined into one. The third option is
NOMAIL. It is possible to remain part of CTBirds, able to post your
sightings here, but not receive any email from the list. You can
still read the messages on the web in one of the archives. The
easiest to read is http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CTBD.html but
it might only go back a day or so. The full archive going back to
early last year can be found at
http://lists.ctbirding.org/pipermail/ctbirds_lists.ctbirding.org/.

Anyone having problems with changing their settings should feel free
to contact me for help.

And a word on posting.....

A great many Rose-breasted Grosbeaks (as one example) have arrived in
Connecticut in the last few days, and more will be here tomorrow.
I've rather enjoyed looking at them myself, as I always do, and I
look forward to seeing more of them. But not every Rose-breasted
Grosbeak needs to be reported to everyone on CTBirds. I don't want
to be a wet blanket, but the next couple of weeks will be getting
even more intense with new migrants arriving and every message goes
to over 450 members, so you might want to think twice before posting
a report that looks pretty much like the last four or five reports
you have read.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for making CTBirds what it is.
