[CT Birds] FW: Use of pesticides' near heron rookery

CT Birders,

This is the last response I received which makes sense to me, but the area
is still being threatened by off road recreation. This GBHeron rookery has
increased in size over the last 3 or 4 years, 5 nest-7 nest to 9 this year.
I guess all I can do is hope that the area remains as vibrant as I have seen
over the last 3 or 4 years.

I do appreciate everyones assistance.

The sign that was posted near the rookery is the type that farmers must use
to post their fields when applying restricted pesticides. They have also
discovered that they make great no trespassing signs, even if they don't say
so directly. There are plenty of agricultural fields, both tobacco and
nursery stock, in the area, so that it is entirely possible that pesticides
have been applied to those fields, and have been for years. I seriously
doubt that any pesticides were applied to the swamp - what would be the
point? At this point I do not have enough indication of pesticide misuse to
direct an inspector to visit the site. If you find further evidence let me
know.

Bev,

I went down to the rookery this afternoon. I am going to send a few photos
to the email contact you gave me and to Brad Robinson. This area is easier
to access from Babb’s Rd. If anyone contacts you and wants to see the site
let me know so I can guide them via the most direct route to the rookery.
The fields are very big and it would be easy to go in the wrong direction.
