A faster than I would like trip through Nehantic State Forest Lyme Unit
yielded 19 species of Warblers. I also found and caught my first Black
Racer (snake) of the year. You have no idea how cathartic it felt during
this stressful time for me to have that 3 and 1/2 foot snake constrict on
my arm, what a feisty beauty, thank you mother nature! For you dragonfly
mavens I saw my first Stream Cruiser today. OK the bird highlights, I'm
listing numbers of individuals only for the transient migrants;
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Pileated Woodpecker
Least Flycatcher (don't find these many years in this unit of Nehantic SF)
White-eyed Vireo
Yellow-throated Vireo
Warbling Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Red-breasted Nuthatch (1)
Veery
Wood Thrush
Blue-winged Warbler
Nashville Warbler (1)
Northern Parula (4)
Yellow Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler (1)
Black-throated Green Warbler
Pine Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler (1)
Cerulean Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Worm-eating Warbler (this place still has to be the best place for these
guys, they are everywhere in this forest)
Ovenbird
Northern Waterthrush
Louisiana Waterthrush
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded Warbler
Scarlet Tanager
Baltimore Oriole
Curious miss was R-b Grosbeak which seemed in evidence everywhere BUT in
the forest today.
