 From Steve Broker (Cheshire):
5/28 - Naugatuck, Naugatuck State Forest, Hunters Mountain Road --
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW. Observed in west end of weedy field from 10:40
A.M. to 11:00 A.M.. Easy parking in the first, left hand, gravel lot
adjacent to east end of field. Entering the field here at metal gate
and walking the trodden path north and west made for an interesting
approach to this loud-singing bird. It was highly visible most of
the time, atop metal sign post with sapling and pink surveyor's tape
and on surrounding vegetation within a 50 meter radius. Three note
buzzy song was being produced every 5 to 10 seconds (occasional two
note buzz, and one four note buzz heard). Excellent study (foraging,
feeding, advertising).
