For only $6 a year, you can subscribe to "Connecticut Wildlife," the DEP Wildlife Unit's publication that provides updates and information on a wide range? of CT's wildlife species. The last issue had information on Piping Plovers, Least Terns and more. A great investment.

Subject: [CT Birds] CT Piping Plover news

There is an article in today's Hartford Courant by Peter Marteka on the
increase of piping plovers in the state. From the 41 pairs of plovers
last year came 102 fledgings, the highest number in the state since
monitoring began in 1986. Julie Victoria from DEP was quoted as saying
that the large amounts of rain in May kept people from the beaches and
helped the fledgings to remain undisturbed. The article can be read
n. Good news and congratulations to all the volunteers who patrol the
beaches and the nesting areas.
