My husband & I decided to go to Essex anyway for Valentine's Day, even
though it wasn't the official Eagle Festival. There was a nice group, but
definitely not as many people as during the Eagle Festival. The shop keepers were
saying they hoped that the Eagle Festival would occur again next year.
We saw 2 Bald Eagles sitting on their nest across the river from the CT.
River Museum and 1 fly over Eagle skimming the trees. At the dock area by the
museum were 16 mallards, 12 Canada Geese, 3 Graylag (barnyard) Geese-like on
page 89 of Sibley's , about 50 Ring billed gulls on the roof.
We took the Essex train ride and saw Red breasted mergansers, black ducks,
mute swans, turkey vultures soaring & a Great Blue heron fly-by, a red tailed
hawk sitting in a tree and several ducks I couldn't identify because they
were too far for my binoculars.
A nice afternoon.
