[CT Birds] Lots of birds

For those who think that there is currently a lack of birds, please be
advised that that is not the case in Litchfield, Morris, Winchester, and the
rural sections of Torrington. These places are loaded with birds. I just
haven’t had time to report them to ctbirds or e-bird. Here’s a sampling of
some notable birds for the past few days:

6/1/09 – Litchfield, White Hall Rd. (White Memorial’s Museum Area, & Ongley
Pond, Interpretive, & Lake Trails) – a combined total of 9 Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers, 9 Purple Finches, & 18 Eastern Bluebirds, + 1 Brown Creeper, & 1
Bank Swallow

N. Shore Rd. (White Memorial’s Wheeler Hill & Pt. Folly) – 2 Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers, 8 Eastern Wood-Pewees, 4 Least Flycatchers, 2 Willow
Flycatchers, 2 Yellow-throated Vireos, 5 Warbling Vireos, 20 Cedar Waxwings,
1 Blue-winged Warbler, 8 Chestnut-sided Warblers, 1 Blackpoll Warbler, 7
Scarlet Tanagers, 20 Eastern Towhees

(Bantam Lake’s N. Bay & Pt. Folly) – 26 Common Nighthawks overhead

White’s Woods Rd. (White Memorial’s Cemetery Pond) – 6 Northern Rough-winged
Swallows, 1 Marsh Wren

Morris, E. Shore, Alain White, & Van Winkle Roads (Various parcels of White
Memorial land) – 1 ACADIAN FLYCATCHER (E. Shore Rd., ¼ mile south of Sandy
Beach), 5 Eastern Wood-Pewees, 2 Yellow-throated Vireos, 5 Eastern
Bluebirds, 2 Hermit Thrushes, 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 3 Blue-winged
Warblers, 4 Chestnut-sided Warblers, 3 Black-throated Green Warblers, 1
Blackburnian Warbler, 8 Scarlet Tanagers, 6 Eastern Towhees

Rt. 109 (White Memorial’s Solnit Parcel) – 1 Common Raven

6/2/09 – Litchfield, White Hall Rd. (White Memorial’s Museum Area, Ongley,
Activity, & Mill Fields, & N. Shore Marsh) – 1 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO (Mill
Field), 10 Common Nighthawks, 8 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 3 Alder
Flycatchers, 11 Purple Finches, 4 Great Blue Herons, 3 Pileated Woodpeckers,
9 Least Flycatchers, 9 Willow Flycatchers, 10 Warbling Vireos, 7 Bank
Swallows, 18 Cedar Waxwings, 1 Fish Crow, 1 Northern Waterthrush

Bissell Rd. (White Memorial’s Pine Island) – 2 Black-throated Green Warblers

White’s Woods Rd. (White Memorial’s Cemetery Pond) – 6 singing Marsh Wrens,
17 Wood Ducks, 5 Willow Flycatchers, 3 Northern Rough-winged Swallows

6/3/09 – Winchester, 121 Laurel Way (Rosgen Wildlife Sanctuary) – 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 1 Blackburnian Warbler, 1 Blackpoll Warbler, 1
male Indigo Bunting, 4 Purple Finches, 1 Pine Siskin
