Greetings from Lighthouse Point Park for Tuesday, 09-01-2009.

Today was another fine day at Lighthouse. Like Monday, the hawk count started off slowly, but ended up with a count of 102 Raptors. The difference today was a total absence of cloud cover, making the morning Passerine flight difficult. The following were counted:

Osprey... 69

Northern Harrier... 1

Bald Eagle... 9...- 4 adult, 1 2nd/3rd year,?? 4 juvenile.

Sharp-shinned Hawk... 9

Cooper's Hawk... 5

Red-tailed Hawk... 2

Red-shouldered Hawk... 1

Broad-winged Hawk... 5

Merlin... 1

Total... 102

Other birds of note migrating:

Cedar Waxwing...175

Red-wing Blackbird... 180

Bobolink... 125

Barn Swallow... 150

Bank Swallow... 25

Tree Swallow... 140

Cliff Swallow... 45

Purple Martin... 40

Chimney Swift... 450?? there were Swifts moving almost all day, until the Common Green Darners overpowered everything. There were

????????????????????????????????? probably several thousand Darners during the Noontime time frame.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird... 20

Eastern Kingbird... 8

Thanks to the following for all of their help today:

Brenda Inskeep- formerly of Phoenix, AZ.... Don Morgan... Marty Moore... Lynn James... Richard English
