The Hartford Audubon Society will be starting off the season with their
first monthly meeting tonight. The speaker will be Julie Victoria from
the Conn. DEP and her topic is "The Status of Raptors and Other
Threatened Species in Connecticut." She will be discussing DEP Wildlife
Diversity Program's efforts concerning the eagle, peregrine falcons and
osprey and their rollercoaster ride from almost extinction to the boom
in productivity that allowed the eagle and peregrine to be taken off the
federal endangered species list and the osprey to be taken off the state
list. Also efforts to protect the ground nesting shorebirds, piping
plover and least terns, will be discussed.
Please join us at 7:00 pm for socializing and refreshments and the
program starts at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be held at St. James
Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. All are welcome.
