The MacArthur Grants, or "Genius Awards", were announced today and Dr.
Richard Prum of Yale University was one of the recipients. He was
recognized for his work on the evolutionary biology of birds. A few
years ago he spoke at the annual COA meeting on how birds see color
differently than people, illustrating his talk with wonderful examples
of Birds of Paradise mating displays. It made me want to go immediately
to Papua New Guinea to see them. Rick will be speaking at the Nov.
meeting of the Hartford Audubon Society on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 pm
at the Wood Memorial Library in South Windsor on "Birds as Dinosaurs".
