Yesterday (10/18) in the rain at Sherwood Island SP in Westport there
were 8 Cliff Swallows with a small group of Trees feeding around the
model airplane field. All birds were seen well and checked for Cave
Swallow but showed dark throats (little/no contrast with their dark
caps) and a thin pale collar...unlike the buffy throats and capped
appearance of Caves. Cave Swallows usually start appearing in the
first few days of November, but should be looked for earlier.
