Southport Survey # 206
Off shore was rather quite, but the cold air over the warm Sound
aggravated the shimmers. There was the occasional Long-tailed Duck on
the fly by and a fair number of Common Loons off shore. New birds
were 3 Horned Grebes. Sunken Island had a small flock of Sanderling
and most of the Black Ducks.

On the golf course there were very few gulls (most likely out
feeding). The Pied-billed Grebe was back. It might have been there
before, hidden by the banks of the pond. The Great Cormorants
continue on the harbor marker used by the Ospreys. All the beaches
had several dogs on them making gull counting difficult. I remember
when the shore was a 6 month wilderness area, now they get activity
all year long.
