On Monday Brian Webster and Larry Flynn saw and photographed an
unusual drake American Wigeon in Norwalk, CT. Brian's photos are
posted on my blog at the link below.
The question is whether this is a hybrid or an aberrant American
Wigeon. I'm not sure what to make of it myself, but the fact that the
couple of odd features happen to tend toward Eurasian is making me
lean toward hybrid. If a hybrid, it is certainly not a typical F1
individual. Multiple aspects of the bird, including its flank color,
is perfectly normal for American.
Kudos to Brian and Larry for noticing the odd features.
