What's with these duck traps? What is their purpose?
And why are the ducks dying in them?
Are the traps not being checked often enough?

12/16 Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, Milford, 10AM-1PM
Sunny, windy, 25-30, high tide rising, then around 11AM started to recede.
The marsh grasses were a glowing gold contrasting the deep blue of the
marsh waters this morning.Beautiful!
In the duck trap were 6 Black ducks, 1 mallard and 1 dead duck again. DEP
came to retrieve the ducks around 12:20PM.
2 mallards (1 male & 1 female) were investigating the duck trap then swam
around the marsh. 2 juvenile (light gray feathers) mute swans,
8 Canada Geese. 1 House sparrow, 1 Cardinal (male), 2 Song sparrows.
