>From James Restivo and Linda and Tommy Self:
12/27 - Stonington, private property - 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE
Stonington, Barn Island WMA - 1 CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
The Napatree CBC, which encompasses all or part of Pawcatuck, Stonington, and North Stonington, CT, was held today. The early ealry morning started out with a soft but steady rain, making owling a cold and wet experience (of course we didn't hear any owls either!). As the day cleared up in the afternoon, birding was more pleasant. Two groups covered the CT portion of the count. Our best birds were an adult Northern Shrike in Stonington and a Clay-colored Sparrow on Barn Island. The Clay-colored was associating with a couple of White-throated Sparrows at the third impoundment, just before the trail goes into the woods. It responded to pishing, but did not stick around long.
