12/30 Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, Milford 10AM-1PM
high tide receding sunny, 25 degrees
The marsh waters closest to shoreline were frozen over; however further
out and closer to the mouth of the Housatonic , waters were open. One
hunter in a boat early and then he left.
4 Cardinals (3 males, 1 female), 3 white throated sparrows, 2 house
sparrows, 1 song sparrow, 2 Blue Jays; near mouth of Housatonic was a pair of
Hooded Mergansers (1M, 1 F), 1 Harrier (f) fly over and then it landed on
the frozen muddy grass. This was the best view of a harrier I have had-able
to see facial discs and yellowish around eyes. The duck trap was frozen
over into the marsh waters. Several gulls-ring billed, Greater black backed
and Herring gulls.
